Snapchat Launches Plans to Organize Real-Life Meetups Inside the App
Snapchat has rolled out Snapchat Plans. The company added this suite on Friday. The tool helps users manage real-world events without leaving the app.
Many young users already plan hangouts in group chats. Snapchat cited a survey for this trend. It said 35 percent of users aged 13 to 24 use chats to organize events. Snapchat Plans builds on that habit.
Users can now send invitations to mutual friends. They can also receive those invites. In addition, they can track the date, time, and attendee list. Moreover, they can view every plan in one spot inside the app.
Soon, Snapchat will add another option. Users will then create events directly from a chat window.
Creating a plan is straightforward. First, a user adds a title. Next, the user picks a date and time. After that, the user can invite up to 200 people. Friends, family, and acquaintances can all receive an invite. Users can also add Bitmoji cover art. That artwork can update as more people respond.
Invites arrive in individual chats. Guests can reply with Going, Maybe, or Can’t Go. Meanwhile, the existing conversation stays intact.
Snapchat also added a My Plans section. There, users can browse current, upcoming, and past events. On a friend’s profile, an Our Plans section appears. It shows events that both people share.
Hosts can reopen a plan later. They can check who is attending. They can also change details or add more guests. Guests can view the full list and update their RSVP. In addition, Snapchat sends a reminder one hour before the event starts.
Plans stay invite-only. As a result, details remain among the people who received the invite.
