Introducing Slack Code: Collaborative Coding with AI Agents

Slack has launched a new feature called Slack Code. This tool gives teams dedicated channels. Teams can build software there with AI coding agents.

Slack Code creates a special space for each coding session or project. Users work with an agent in that space. Teams and agents plan tasks together. They write code as a group. They also review the results jointly.

Several AI agents already work on Slack Code. Anthropic’s Claude Code is one of them. Cognition’s Devin joins the list. GitHub Copilot and Vercel are available too.

Users start a new code channel in a simple way. They mention an agent such as Claude or Devin inside Slack. Then they add relevant teammates to the conversation.

The agent builds a workspace around the given task. It generates the needed code. It can also prepare a supporting document. In some cases it offers a live HTML preview.

Slack automatically archives the channel after the task ends. The archived space stays available for later reference.

Developers can preview the coding process in real time. Teammates spot bugs during this preview. They give feedback on the work. They can redirect the agent when necessary.

Everyone in the channel follows the progress easily. They see the conversation in one tab. The plan appears in a separate tab. Live previews display in their own tabs.

Users also control how the agent behaves. The system auto-provisions accounts. It authenticates users as needed. It automates parts of the workflow.

Salesforce owns Slack. The company announced the feature in a blog post on Thursday.

Several partners already develop inside Slack Code. Anthropic, Cognition, GitHub, OpenAI and Vercel use the new code channel APIs. They bring their coding agents into the shared space.

At launch Slack Code supports Claude Code, Devin, GitHub Copilot and Vercel. OpenAI’s ChatGPT integration will arrive soon.

The feature is available on every Slack plan. Users still need access to each partner agent.

Slack Code currently focuses on software engineering and coding. The company will expand it shortly. Future uses will include marketing campaigns. Legal contract reviews will follow. IT onboarding represents another planned area.
