Casio Launches Y2K-Inspired Baby-G Watches

Casio Launches Two New Modular Baby-G Watches with Y2K Style

Casio expands its Baby-G collection this July. The company introduces two fresh models: the BGD-10KG-2JR and BGD-10KG-4JR. These watches embrace the popular Y2K trend with translucent resin bands and glitter-filled dials. They carry a price tag of ¥11,550, or about $72, in Japan.

Unique Modular Design

These watches feature an innovative modular structure. Users can easily remove the center digital module from the resin wristband. They can then place it into an included silicone holder.

This holder comes with its own strap. As a result, people can wear the module as a clip-on charm on backpacks, belt loops, or lanyards. Casio encourages users to decorate the silicone holder creatively. However, the company advises against using metallic straps that could damage the mounting holes.

Reliable Everyday Performance

Beyond the detachable design, the BGD-10KG offers solid digital watch functionality. It delivers the toughness expected from the Baby-G series. The shock-resistant resin case and 100-meter water resistance make it suitable for swimming and daily activities.

The watch remains compact and lightweight. It measures 42.8 x 39 x 14.7 millimeters and weighs only 33 grams. A mineral glass protects the digital display.

Inside, a CR1616 coin-cell battery powers the device. Casio estimates the battery will last around three years.

The feature set includes world time for 29 time zones and 30 cities, a stopwatch, a 24-hour countdown timer, and five daily alarms. Additionally, users get a white LED backlight that lasts two seconds and a full auto-calendar.

Availability and More

Both models are now available for pre-order on Casio’s official online store in Japan. They will hit the market later this month.

In other news, Casio recently released four Luxe Black G-Shock 2100 series watches in the United States. These models feature a sleek all-black minimalist design.

Overall, the new Baby-G watches combine fun, retro Y2K aesthetics with practical modularity. They offer young users a versatile and durable timepiece for everyday adventures.
