Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra: Major Battery Upgrade Rumors

Samsung may enhance the Galaxy S27 Ultra with larger battery options for improved performance.

Samsung may offer its first major battery upgrade for the Galaxy S27 Ultra in several years. A new leak reveals this exciting possibility. The company is reportedly testing larger battery cells for its next flagship phone.

According to a tipster on X known as Schrödinger (@phonefuturist), Samsung evaluates options of 5,600mAh and 5,800mAh batteries from Samsung SDI. Previously, the firm had settled on a 5,200mAh lithium-ion cell. Now, it has reopened discussions for even bigger capacities. If tests succeed, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could launch with more than 5,500mAh.

Moreover, Samsung continues to rely on traditional lithium-ion technology. It avoids silicon-carbon batteries for now. Several Chinese brands have already switched to silicon-carbon cells because they provide higher energy density. Instead, Samsung focuses on improving the efficiency of its current battery design.

This change would mark a significant step. Earlier Ultra models, from the Galaxy S20 Ultra through the recent Galaxy S26 Ultra, all carried 5,000mAh batteries. Although software and hardware tweaks improved endurance each year, the listed capacity stayed the same.

Additionally, the rumor positions Samsung ahead of Apple. Reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro Max may feature around 5,425mAh in eSIM versions and 5,235mAh in models with a physical SIM tray. Thus, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could boast the larger battery if both leaks hold true.

However, experts note that battery size alone does not determine real-world performance. Samsung and Apple use different hardware and software systems. Therefore, actual battery life will require hands-on tests after launch. Until then, users should treat these details as unconfirmed rumors.

Samsung also explores other upgrades for the S27 series. These include potential improvements in display and camera features. Overall, the Galaxy S27 Ultra promises stronger competition in the premium smartphone market.
